Research Interests
My research interests lie in the fields of behavioural ecology, ethology, and sociobiology, involving questions on the ecology and evolution of human and animal behaviour. At present my research focuses on the vocal behaviour of canids, particularly wolves and coyotes. My earlier work focused on the functions of long distance calls, but more recent work has centered on the proximate factors influencing the physical features of the calls. I am also interested in the general ecology and behaviour of caribou and black bears, studies that have been done in Labrador. I have also been involved in studies investigating the impacts of human activities (i.e., mining, low-level military jet fighter training) on the behaviour and population dynamics of woodland and barren-ground caribou.
