Overview

The Halifax Experience Ambassadors for Regional Tourism (HEART) program is a self-paced online course exploring some of the best the Halifax region has to offer. Through videos, readings, and more, you will learn about what makes Halifax a great place to visit while exploring key skills for sharing what you know with visitors from around the world.

The course takes about 2 to 4 hours to complete including an assessment at the end to test the knowledge and skills explored throughout the course.

This non-credit course has been developed by MSVU and Discover Halifax. For questions, please contact microcredentials@msvu.ca.

Purpose

Through this course, you will gain the knowledge and skills to support visitors to the Halifax region in having a memorable and positive experience. In this foundational course, you will be introduced to Mi’kma’ki, diverse ways to experience the area, active listening, and more. The HEART program will help you see Halifax with a fresh perspective whether you have lived here your whole life or just arrived.

The HEART program has been designed to be accessible for anyone wanting to learn more about the Halifax region. We recommend this course for anyone interested or working in tourism and hospitality, including:

  • hotel staff
  • front-of-house restaurant staff
  • anyone in tourism and hospitality roles

Completion

After successfully completing the course, you will receive a digital badge from MSVU and Discover Halifax through MyCreds. The HEART digital badge can be listed on your resume or added on LinkedIn and other social media sites. This gives you the opportunity to share your accomplishments and dedication to supporting tourism in the Halifax region with your professional network.
