The MEd is an applied (non-thesis) program designed to help teachers and educators to become leaders in their fields.

Whether your goal is to become a more effective classroom teacher, a school administrator, or an educator outside the traditional classroom setting, the MEd can help you to develop the skills to build a satisfying career in education.

Admission Requirements

Depending on your program area, admission requirements may vary. Some programs areas require a Bachelor of Education with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Others require a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Program Requirements

Depending on your program area, the requirements to may vary. In general, you must complete ten or eleven graduate courses. (The Graduate Academic Calendar describes this requirement as 5.0 or 5.5 units of course weight; a one-term course represents 0.5 units.) For some programs, you may also be required to complete a practicum, project, or internship.

In general, full-time, on-campus students can complete the program requirements in one year. Part-time students may take up to five years to complete the program requirements, but most part-time students earn their degrees in two to three years. Off-campus cohorts take two years to complete.

The MA Ed is a thesis-based program that combines graduate coursework with independent research to produce a thesis.
If you want to build your skills as an educator by delving into the theory that supports teaching practice, and if you have a particular research interest that you’d like to explore under the guidance of a faculty supervisor, the MA Ed can help you achieve those goals.

To complete the thesis requirement, you will work with a faculty supervisor to deeply research a topic and to produce a thesis. Your thesis supervisor will have similar research interests to yours, so you should review faculty research profiles when choosing a thesis topic.

In general, full-time students can complete the program requirements in two years. Part-time students may take up to five years to complete the program requirements, but most part-time students earn their degrees in two to three years.

Students in the MA in School Psychology program must enroll in full-time studies, completing the program in two years.

The RMA is a research-intensive, thesis-based program that will allow you to pursue specialized scholarly studies under the supervision of a faculty member.

The RMA will enable you to delve deeply into a particular area of study, and contribute to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of Education.

Admission Requirements

Depending on your program area, admission requirements may vary. You will need to meet the Master of Arts in Education admission requirements in the program area you plan to study.

In general, admission requirements include a Bachelor of Education or another Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Some program areas may also require a year of teaching experience.

Program Highlights

The Master of Arts (MA) School Psychology program is a two-year, full-time thesis-based master’s degree program.

 

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for this program include the following:

  1. An undergraduate degree in psychology, preferably an honours degree in psychology or equivalent, with a high academic standing (normally a minimum of a B+ (GPA3.3) is required. In addition, a degree in education with a high academic standing (normally a minimum of a B+ (GPA 3.3) is also preferred and considered necessary in some provinces in order to work in the schools.
  2. Related work/volunteer experience.
  3. Three letters of reference attesting to academic and work experiences, and personal characteristics.

Program Requirements

The School Psychology program includes coursework, practicum, and research, which culminates in a 600-hour internship. Most graduates from this program work as psychologists in the school system. Learn more »
