French as Second Language Bursaries

We are proud to announce that we have awarded seven FSL bursaries for the 2023-24 academic year! Congratulations to the recipients! Take a look at their testimonials!

We have 12 $3000 bursaries to give out for the 2024-25 academic year!

Eligible students are those who are taking 5 out of 10 courses in French at MSVU from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025.  French must not already be your first language.

Eligibility criteria:

To receive a bursary for postsecondary studies in French as a second language, one must:

. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
. Have English as the first official language spoken;
. Study full time in a Canadian institution during the current year;
. Have completed their secondary school studies in an English-language institution and graduated from this institution;
. Demonstrate that they have sufficient knowledge of French to be able to study in that language;
. Intend to pursue full-time studies in a college or undergraduate university program in Canada, to take at least 50% of their courses or, if it is less than 50%,  participate in related activities (placements and training activities in the community) in French.
Note:     Special consideration will be given to students facing financial challenges and those who come from under-represented groups.

Applications start on May 1st and close on May 15th.

* You will need to take a Placement test if you are new to the Mount (contact languagelab@msvu.ca for more information) and have an electronic copy of your high school diploma.

You will have to fill out a pre-screening form (the link will be provided here on May 1st) and then contact Dr. Alexandra Tsedryk, Chair of the Modern Languages Department, to let her know you completed this step (alexandra.tsedryk@msvu.ca).
