French as Second Language Bursaries

We have 7 $3000 bursaries to give out for the 2026-2027 academic year!
Eligible students are those who are taking 5 out of 10 courses in French at MSVU from September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027. French must not already be your first language. Applications for half bursaries ($1500) might be considered if you take 3 courses in French during the Academic year, but priority will be given to students with 5 courses.
Eligibility criteria:
To receive a bursary for postsecondary studies in French as a second language, one must:
. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
. Have English as the first official language spoken;
. Study full time in a Canadian institution during the current year;
. Have completed their secondary school studies in an English-language institution and graduated from this institution;
. Demonstrate that they have sufficient knowledge of French to be able to study in that language;
. Intend to pursue full-time studies in a college or undergraduate university program in Canada, to take at least 50% of their courses or, if it is less than 50%, participate in related activities (placements and training activities in the community) in French. B.Ed students with specialization in French can be considered if their practicum is in an immersion school.
Note: Special consideration will be given to students facing financial challenges and those who come from under-represented groups.
For 2025-2026 academic year, applications start on April 1st and close on May 15th, 2026.

To apply, please register for 2026-2027 courses, fill out the pre-screening form , and then contact Dr. Alexandra Tsedryk, Chair of the Modern Languages Department, to let her know you have completed this step (alexandra.tsedryk@msvu.ca).
