What to do next

Congratulations, you’ve been accepted to MSVU! We’re thrilled you’ve chosen us as the next step on your educational journey.

No matter when you’ll be starting classes (September, January, or over the summer), there are things you can do to prepare for your arrival. This page is a roadmap to let you know that you’re not on this journey alone.

Take a look through our Next Steps checklist below!

After you have been accepted, pay your nonrefundable confirmation deposit to officially accept your offer and secure your seat in the program. Please pay our confirmation deposit by the date indicated on your offer letter. Visit our Payment Centre and from the drop-down menu, select the confirmation deposit that applies to you.

Additional questions about payment methods and receipts for your confirmation deposit, please contact our Financial Services Office.

Are you considering living on campus? Take a Virtual Campus Tour for an inside look at all of our residence living options.

For more information on living in residence, application deadlines and residence fees, please contact the Residence Life Office.

Please note – If you have received a conditional offer, then you need to meet the conditions of your offer before you can register for your classes.

If you have no conditions on your offer, then please register for your classes as soon as possible as some classes fill up very quickly.

You may use the Program Planning worksheet to help with your class schedule planning. This worksheet provides an overall picture of the courses that need to be taken toward the completion of your graduate degree.

The courses on this worksheet are arranged according to required courses and electives and may either be .5 units or 1 unit.

A parttime student is registered for less than 1.5 units per semester.

A fulltime student is registered for 1.5 to 2.5 units per semester.

Please note that you may need to take a certain number of courses to maintain your eligibility for your study permit (International student requirement), student loans and some bursaries and scholarships.

Students in all graduate programs must register in a minimum of 1.0 unit in each academic calendar year (September to August) to maintain registration in the program and to remain in good standing as a graduate student. International Students need to be full time in all semesters of study.

Create your Plan of Study and Register for classes:

  1. Print out the Program Planning Worksheet that was emailed to you.
  2. Watch the How do I register for courses video to learn how to search the online Academic Time Table for your courses and how to register for your courses.
  3. Register for your courses.
  4. You can make changes to your schedule by adding and dropping classes any time before the add/drop deadline.

You may reach out to your Faculty Advisor directly If you have any questions about course selections during your program planning or email graduate@msvu.ca. Be sure to include your name, student number and degree in your request.

You are responsible for the completeness and accuracy of your course registrations throughout your degree.

In the event of any discrepancy between the courses listed on the Program Planning Worksheet and the courses listed in the Graduate Academic Calendar, the Graduate Academic Calendar will be considered the authority.

A comprehensive list of student services available to graduate students can be found in the A-Z list. Please contact graduate@msvu.ca to be connected with your Faculty Advisor for Graduate Academic Advising.
