The PsyD in School and Child Clinical Psychology program at Mount Saint Vincent University is currently undergoing the required approval processes. Submissions are being prepared for review by MSVU’s Senate and the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC). We have provided answers to some frequently asked questions below. Frequently Asked Questions

THE DEGREE

PsyD stands for Doctor of Psychology. This is a professional degree designed to train psychologists who plan on practicing. A PsyD places more emphasis on applied knowledge and practical training and less emphasis on research than a PhD.

APPLICATIONS

The anticipated start date for the inaugural class is September 2026, in which case applications are expected to open in fall 2025.

We will be requiring an undergraduate degree in psychology for admission to the PsyD program. More information about specific admissions requirements will be added soon.

The GRE will not be required as part of the admissions process.

Because this is a new program, we will only be offering the first year of the program in 2026-2027. We will not be able to assess applicants for advanced standing (i.e., assess for transfer credits) until the later years of the program are also being offered.

THE PROGRAM

The program can only be completed on a full-time basis.

The program can only be completed in person. It will not be offered online.

The program is currently in development with submissions being prepared for review by MSVU’s Senate and the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC). We will apply for accreditation with CPA as soon as possible.
