Recent Teaching Excellence Awards
The Mount prides itself on the quality of teaching that occurs on our campus. Every year, we award Teaching Excellence Awards to three outstanding faculty (early career, advanced career, and part-time). Three of our faculty members have received Teaching Excellence Awards in the last few years:

2024 – Dr. Michelle Eskritt
Dr. Eskritt regularly teaches across our curriculum, from our introductory psychology courses, to research methods, to more specialized courses on topics like cognitive development and moral development. She often teaches both online and on campus.

2021 – Dr. Will Shead
Dr. Shead also teaches across our curriculum, particularly focusing on courses related to research methods and clinical psychology. He is excited to participate in our Aboriginal Academic Access to Post-Secondary (AAAPs) program.

2019 – Dr. Elizabeth Bowering
Dr. Bowering’s recent teaching focuses mostly on introductory psychology, child development, and adolescent development. She has regularly incorporated experiential learning practices in her teaching, and does research on the same.

Recent Research Excellence Awards
Conducting high-quality research is a key part of our faculty’s success, both in the Psychology department and at the Mount more broadly. Each year, one early career faculty member and one more established faculty member are recognized by the University for excellence in research. Two of our faculty have received research awards in the recent past:
2024 – Dr. Jennifer Khoury
Dr. Khoury conducts research on the impact of early life stress on neurobiological function and social-emotional development of children and infants, with a particular interest in how parent-child relationships can exacerbate or protect against early life stressors.

2020 – Dr. Derek Fisher
Dr. Fisher conducts research using EEG technology to investigate electrical activity in the brain. Much of his published research looks at changes to brain function during mental illness and neurological illness, as well as the effects of common drugs on the brain.
