The Library oversees several Student Study Rooms on campus. These rooms are reserved for the use of current MSVU students. Due to the ongoing pandemic, study rooms in EMF and McCain are available for solo or small group use.

Use a laptop, desktop, or tablet for the best user experience. You may have difficulty viewing the booking calendar on a phone.

Note to students who are blind, visually impaired, colourblind, or have a print disability: the Mount Library’s room booking system relies on colour-coded visual cues and click navigation. For immediate assistance with booking rooms during the Library’s open hours, call 902-457-6250. For requests that are not time-sensitive, you may also request a booking by emailing library@msvu.ca

How to Book a Room

  • Visit the link to the new system. You’ll see a list of all 9 MSVU Student Study Rooms in EMF and McCain.
  • We recommend using a desktop, laptop, or tablet – the booking system can be difficult to navigate on a phone.
  • Be sure to sign in right away. Use your Mount login information (same as your Mount email).

Checking Out a Room Key

  • Come to the Library’s front desk with your ID card. Library staff will scan your ID to confirm your booking.
  • Fill in the Key sign-out form while Library staff check out your key.
  • Tell Library staff if you need white board markers.

Checking In (Returning) a Room Key

  • Please return room keys on time to avoid late charges ($5/hr, or $40 for a lost key).
  • If you are unable to return the key before the Library closes, please deposit it in one of our book bins (Rosaria, Seton, or near the front entrance of EMF).

Last-minute Bookings

  • Students should place their own bookings online whenever possible, up to 1 week in advance.
  • Last-minute room requests at the desk are first come, first served, at the discretion of library staff. We will do our best to accommodate you. Please be patient!
  • Questions? Phone 457-6250 or email library@msvu.ca

Eligibility

  • Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, rooms are available for solo or small group use.
  • Rooms are not available for paid tutoring, classroom use, faculty or staff use, or use by non-MSVU students (unless accompanied by an MSVU student).
  • Faculty and staff should contact Conference Services (902-457-6355) to arrange classroom bookings elsewhere on campus.
  • Tutors are encouraged to contact the Students’ Union for more information about available spaces.
  • Additional solo study space is available in the Library’s study carrels and quiet zones.
  • Valid MSVU credentials are required to access the booking system. These are the same credentials you use to log into your Mount email, MyMount, etc. If you can’t log into the booking system or or can’t place a booking, contact library staff at 902-457-6250 or library@msvu.ca. We will make sure your account is up to date. If you can’t log into any MSVU services, you should contact the IT&S Helpdesk for assistance at helpdesk@msvu.ca or 902-457-6538.

Booking Limits

  • The room booking system includes a number of built-in limitations to ensure more students have a chance to use the rooms.
  • Each student is eligible for one (1) booking per day, to a maximum length of three (3) hours.
  • You can’t place another booking until your current booking has concluded, and bookings must be at least 12 hours apart. We recommend waiting until the morning after your most recent booking to place another request.
  • Bookings are available one (1) week in advance.
  • Online reservations should be made at least one (1) hour in advance to prevent technical glitches.
  • Last-minute room bookings are available in person at the discretion of Library staff. Please be patient! We will do our best to accommodate you.
  • At the discretion of Library staff, keys may be signed out for longer periods of time to accommodate back-to-back bookings by students who know each other.

Fees and Penalties

  • If you are more than 15 minutes late for key card check-out, you may be considered a “no show” and your room may be given to another student.
  • Students can cancel their own bookings via their online library account. If you’re having trouble with this, please call the Library at 902-457-6250.
  • Leave the room and return your key card on time to avoid late fines ($5.00/hr).
  • Key cards must be returned to the Library desk 15 minutes before the Library closes to avoid overnight late fines. If you can’t return a key on time due to extenuating circumstances, please deposit it in one of our blue book drops around campus (Seton, Rosaria, in front of EMF).
  • There is a $40.00 charge for a lost key card.
  • Students are responsible for the condition of rooms, equipment, and keys.
  • If you notice mess or damage in a room, please contact Library staff immediately. Do not wait until the end of your booking, or you may be held responsible.
  • Rooms are not sound proof. Please respect fellow students by keeping noise levels to a minimum. Please keep voices low when travelling to and from study rooms. If other students complain about noise during your booking, you may be asked to leave.
