The Certificate and Diploma Programs in Business Administration
Students may not wish to complete a four-year BBA, or their personal circumstances may not allow them to make such a time commitment in the beginning of their studies. The Mount provides three levels of academic credentials in business administration: a certificate, a diploma, and a degree. It is possible to complete these credentials sequentially. This allows students to make shorter-term commitments with less of a financial investment when they start on their educational journey.
The Certificate in Business Administration is a stand-alone credential consisting of six full units of course work in business administration. Students who complete the certificate will have a basic understanding of the core business functions (management, marketing and accounting), with an appreciation of how business impacts, and is influenced by, the economy. Students who complete the Certificate in Business Administration may choose to build on their credential towards a Diploma in Business Administration, or seek entry directly into the BBA degree program. It should be noted that due to prerequisite requirements and course offerings, students should not expect to complete the certificate in one academic year.
The Diploma in Business Administration is a stand-alone credential consisting of a total of 12 full units of study. These 12 units include the six units in the Certificate in Business Administration. Students who have completed the Certificate in Business Administration can enter the diploma program, completing the additional six units of study to obtain that particular credential. Students who have successfully completed the required diploma courses can obtain the BBA degree by adding another eight full units of study. Students should anticipate spending more than two years completing their diploma courses.
The inherent flexibility of the stepping stone approach following the certificate-diploma-degree route has enabled many to pursue their dream of obtaining a university education while making time for family, work and self.
