An in-depth examination of a specialized area of biology that is sufficiently distinct from the student’s thesis and completed under the supervision of a MSVU faculty member.

Graduate Research Methods in Natural Sciences 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to MSc Natural Sciences program
Students will develop and strengthen skills relevant to the natural sciences including oral communication, scientific writing, project design & management, and networking. Students will present their research, gain feedback, and engage with current scientific topics. Regular seminars feature student presentations, faculty talks, and guest speakers, fostering communication skills and collaboration.

Thesis I: Research Proposal and Oral Proposal Defense 1.0 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to MSc Natural Sciences program
Required for the completion of MSc Natural Sciences degree, this constitutes the first segment of the student’s thesis research project. Research is conducted under the guidance of the research thesis Supervisor in conjunction with the other Supervisory Committee members. Graded Pass/Fail/NCR.

Thesis II: Thesis Document and Oral Thesis Defense 1.0 unit
Prerequisite(s): GNSR 6601
Required for the completion of MSc Natural Sciences degree, this constitutes the second segment of the student’s thesis research project. Research is conducted under the guidance of the research thesis Supervisor in conjunction with the other Supervisory Committee members. Graded Pass/Fail/NCR.

GNSR 6603
Advanced Topics in Natural Sciences 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to MSc Natural Sciences or permission from the instructor
An examination of a selected topic in the natural sciences using a seminar style format that incorporate lectures, tutorials, and group discussion. Topics will vary from year to year.

GPSY 6100
Advanced Directed Study 0.5 unit
Prerequisit(e)s: Enrolment in a relevant graduate program and permission of the instructor
An in-depth examination of a specialized area of psychology completed under the supervision of a MSVU faculty member. The student is expected to write a project proposal, do data analysis, and write up the research in APA format. The project should be sufficiently distinct from the student’s graduate thesis (if relevant).
