General Information
The Doctor of Psychology in School and Child Clinical Psychology program is designed to train individuals who want to work in settings that focus on the provision of psychological services to children, adolescents, youth, and/or their families/caregivers as well as other professionals who work with these groups. The program is designed to meet the requirements for registration/licensing as a psychologist in all provinces/territories. Applicants should be aware that registration/licensing requirements vary somewhat across provinces and territories. Applicants are advised to consult with provincial/territorial registration/licensing bodies if they have questions about these requirements.

The program has been designed with the requirements for accreditation by the Canadian Psychological Association in mind and will apply for accreditation as soon as possible.

Admission Requirements

  1. An undergraduate honours degree in psychology that required the completion of a thesis. A high academic standing with a minimum B+ average (GPA 3.3) in the last 10 units is expected. Applicants who have not completed a thesis as part of the undergraduate degree in psychology can submit a Thesis Equivalent Statement. As part of the undergraduate degree, applicants should have completed a variety of courses from across core areas of psychology. Applicants must have taken an advanced statistics course, a research design/methods course, a developmental psychology course, and a course in psychopathology/abnormal psychology. Applicants must have received a minimum grade of B+ in the four required courses.
  2. Demonstrated experience in work and/or volunteer settings with children, adolescents, and/or youth.
  3. Three letters of reference, including two academic and one professional.
  4. An up-to-date curriculum vitae/resumé indicating volunteer and/or work experience with children, adolescents, and/or youth.
  5. Three required essays. (Personal Statement; Practice and Development of the Profession Statement; Research and Practice Statement) Note that applicants can choose to submit an optional Additional Personal Statement.

Note: All documentation must be submitted in English. If the undergraduate degree was completed outside of North America, a course-by-course report from World Education Services (WES; https://www.wes.org/) must also be submitted. Applicants must meet the university’s language proficiency requirements.

The program can only be completed in person and must be completed on a full-time basis. Coursework and required practica can be completed in three years. In their fourth year, students will complete a required, one-year, full-time residency. At least one elective will be offered each year; however, no elective courses are required for the degree.
