PSYD 9001
Ethics and Professional Decision Making in Psychological Practice 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD
An introduction to the centrality of ethics in the practice of psychology. Students will become familiar with the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists as well as other laws, policies, and regulations that are relevant to psychology practice.

Developmental Psychopathology for School and Clinical Psychologists 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and completion of an undergraduate psychopathology or abnormal psychology course
An exploration of the conceptualization of psychological disorders in childhood and adolescence. Students will learn about current diagnostic systems and how to gather and use information in the context of a diagnostic process. The course will also explore historical factors that have influenced how we understand psychopathology.

Cognitive Assessment for School and Clinical Psychology 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD; must be taken concurrently with PSYD 9004 and PSYD 9005
A seminar course providing an introduction to cognitive assessment. The course will provide students with an understanding of the history of the development and use of common cognitive measures using an ethical framework. Students will develop clinical skills in test administration, scoring, interpretation, and communication of results.

Academic and Language Assessment for School and Clinical Psychology 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD; must be taken concurrently with PSYD 9003 and PSYD 9005
A seminar course providing an introduction to academic and language assessment. The course will introduce students to a variety of academic and language measures and enhance their understanding of the benefits and limitations of each. Students will develop clinical skills in test administration, scoring, interpretation, and communication of results.

Foundations of Clinical Interviewing 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD; must be taken concurrently with PSYD 9003 and PSYD 9004
An introduction to foundational therapeutic skills and clinical interviewing. Students will learn and practice foundational skills and apply them to interviewing caregivers, teachers, and children/youth in school and clinical settings. Students will learn to structure interviews to address specific referral questions and to integrate interview data into case conceptualization.

PSYD 9006
Psychometrics and Test Design 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and completion of an advanced statistics course at the undergraduate level
An introduction to the design, evaluation, and use of assessment measures. The course will focus on how tests are developed, normed, and evaluated for quality and usability. Other topics will include understanding standardized scores, interpreting individual scores within normative data, and evidencebased and ethical assessment practices.

PSYD 9007
Statistics and Research Design 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and completion of an advanced statistics course at the undergraduate level
A course building on the foundations of advanced undergraduate statistics. The focus will be on parametric and non-parametric statistics and research designs commonly used in psychology and education research. The analysis of raw data using statistical software and reporting by APA guidelines is also included.

PSYD 9008
Introduction to Evidence-Based Psychological Interventions in School and Clinical Settings 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD, successful completion of PSYD 9005 with a minimum grade of B-, and must be taken concurrently with PSYD 9102
An introduction to evidence-based interventions for child and youth mental health and behaviour disorders. Students will critically appraise modalities of intervention commonly used in school and clinical psychology settings. Students will focus on integrating foundational knowledge and skills, contextual considerations, and evidence-based approaches when developing case conceptualizations and treatment plans.

PSYD 9009
Professional Psychology Practice in Educational Settings 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD
A seminar course introducing students to the unique aspects of the role psychologists play in educational settings. Students will learn about interdisciplinary practice in schools, including navigating the referral process, working effectively on school teams, and managing unique ethical considerations. Consideration of diversity and culturally responsive practice will be prioritized.

Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice in Psychological Practice 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD
A seminar class that critically examines diversity, equity, and social justice using a socio-psychological framework. Students will be encouraged to individually and collectively explore diversity, equity, and social justice considerations in professional psychological practice, with particular emphasis on the context of schools and other clinical settings.

Behaviour Assessment and Intervention in School and Clinical Settings 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD
A seminar course focused on understanding behavioural principles and their application to assessment of and intervention for problem behaviour in children and youth. The emphasis of this course will be on functional behaviour assessment and applied behaviour analysis and their use in school and clinical settings.

PSYD 9012
Conceptualizing Learning Disabilities for Assessment, Diagnosis, and Intervention 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD
A seminar course focused on developing and understanding the historical context and theoretical basis of learning disabilities and applying this to clinical practice. Students will develop their knowledge of and skill with assessment, diagnosis, and intervention strategies for learning disabilities, with a focus on evidence-based practice.

Advanced Clinical Interviewing for Diagnosis and Intervention 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and successful completion of PSYD 9005 with a minimum grade of B-
A seminar focused on developing advanced interviewing skills for a range of disorders and difficulties presenting in school and clinical settings. Students will be exposed to a wide range of structured and semi-structured interviews used for assessment and diagnosis and will continue to develop therapeutic skills learned in PSYD 9005.

Communication and Consultation for Professional Psychology Practice 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD
An introduction to communication and consultation for psychologists in schools and clinical settings. Students will learn about models of consultation, the use of consultation as a key component of service delivery, problem identification and analysis, and evaluation of the consultative process.

PSYD 9015
Advanced Seminar in Evidence-Based Interventions in School and Clinical Settings 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD
A seminar focused on a broad range of intervention approaches for child and adolescent mental health and behaviour disorders. Students will develop proficiency in multiple modalities of intervention and will build competency in case conceptualization and intervention planning. Emphasis will be placed on intervention in multidisciplinary settings.

PSYD 9016
Developmental Neuropsychology 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD; must be taken concurrently with PSYD 9017
An introduction to school and child clinical neuropsychology and its application to clinical practice. The course will focus on functional neuroanatomy, neuropsychological correlates of learning, mental health, and behaviour disorders seen in children and youth, and the application of neuropsychological principles to assessment and diagnosis in school and clinical settings.

Psychopharmacology for Psychologists 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD; must be taken concurrently with PSYD 9016
An introduction to the effects of psychotropic drugs and pharmacological treatment of mental health disorders in children and youth. Topics include basic drug neurophysiology, including the mechanisms of action of common classes of psychoactive substances, and current clinical practice guidelines for medication use in children and youth.

Program Evaluation for Evidence-Based Practice 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD
An introduction to program evaluation for school and clinical psychology. Students will be introduced to the theory and practice of program evaluation and applications to appraising design, implementation, and effectiveness of programming in a variety of settings. Students will be required to design an evaluation of a relevant program.

PSYD 9019
Clinical Supervision and Interpersonal Relationships 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD; must be taken concurrently with PSYD 9103
A seminar course to introduce students to various models of clinical supervision. Students will be provided with the opportunity to supervise junior colleagues in the PsyD program through the training clinic and to receive supervision about supervision. Culturally responsive and inclusive models of supervision and teaching will be prioritized.

Critical Historical Perspectives on Psychology 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Admission to the PsyD
A critical examination of past and current perspectives on school and clinical psychology, exploring how culture, power, and social context shape theory, research, and practice. Students will critique dominant models, engage with alternative frameworks, and develop reflective, ethically grounded approaches that promote social justice, inclusivity, and equity.

Practicum in Psychoeducational Assessment 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and completion of PSYD 9003, PSYD 9004, and PSYD 9005 with a minimum grade of B- in each
A practicum course designed to provide a structured experience with psychoeducational assessment. Students will observe and conduct psychoeducational assessments under the supervision of registered psychologists. Graded Pass/Fail

PSYD 9102
Practicum in Evidence-Based Psychological Interventions in School and Clinical Settings 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and completion of PSYD 9005 with a minimum grade of B-; must be taken concurrently with PSYD 9008
A practicum focused on the application of the principles of evidence-based practice to the development and implementation of interventions for child and adolescent mental health and behaviour disorders. Students will deliver a group intervention for children/youth under the supervision of registered psychologists. Graded Pass/Fail

PSYD 9103
Professional Seminar 1.0 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and and successful completion of PSYD 9101 and PSYD 9102
An ongoing seminar course designed to provide students with opportunities for professional development and to learn about psychological services in schools and other clinical settings. Students will attend weekly seminars and will organize and complete practica as approved by the Training Director. Graded Pass/Fail

PSYD 9104
Pre-Doctoral Residency in School and Child Clinical Psychology 1.0 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD, successful completion of all courses in the PsyD program except PSYD 9302, and permission from the Training Director
A full-time 12-month residency placement in an approved setting. Students must receive supervision from doctoral-level psychologists consistent with CPA accreditation standards. Graded Pass/Fail

PSYD 9201
Comprehensive Exams 1.0 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and permission from the Training Director
A series of comprehensive exams focused on assessment skills, intervention and consultation, and ethics. Students will be required to present information to the training committee and answer questions posed. Graded Pass/Fail

PSYD 9301
Clinical Dissertation: Research Proposal 0.5 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD
A seminar in which students will develop an independent clinical dissertation project supported by their student colleagues and faculty. The research proposal must include a comprehensive literature review and proposed methodology. Proposals will be formally presented, and students must receive a passing grade before registering in PSYD 9302. Graded Pass/Fail

PSYD 9302
Clinical Dissertation 1.0 unit
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the PsyD and successful completion of PSYD 9301
An ongoing course in which students will work with a faculty supervisor(s) to develop and carry out an independent research project. The clinical dissertation will focus on a clinical research question relevant to school and child clinical psychology practice. Expected outputs are a written dissertation and a formal defence. Graded Pass/Fail
