Welcome to Mount 101

You're starting at university so you probably know a thing or two about being a student. But how many times have you heard that university is different than high school? Believe it or not, Mount 101 can take away some of the uncertainty you might be feeling right now. How you say? By answering questions you may not have even known you had.

The online program introduces you to the Mount, its services, and what you need to know to be the best Mount student you can be. Use Mount 101 to build upon what you already know and see what you can take from the program. What are you scared of, that you might learn something?

How do I get started?

  1. Log into your Moodle account using your MSVU username and password.
  2. Click on "2019 Mount 101" and start with the Informed Consent. Then go through the "101 on Mount 101" to find out everything you need to know.
  3. You can complete the program on your own time and at your own pace. The program saves your spot so you can leave and come back as often as you need.
  4. If you have any technical issues, please email helpdesk@msvu.ca and use MOUNT 101 as the subject.

How do I complete Mount 101?

  1. Go through the lessons and apply what you've learned in the interactive activities and Check Your Knowledge questions.
  2. Show off what you know (and learned) in the Check-in Challenges. You need to earn 7/10 on the Check-in Challenge to complete each section. And you can take the Challenge as many times as you want.
  3. When you're finished you'll see check marks next to each box in Mount 101. And you'll know you're done when you receive your completion certificate.

Do I really have to do it?

Yes. Anyone who's new at the Mount has to complete Mount 101.

What's in it for me?

  • You'll learn what you need to know to find your way around the Mount and how to get the most out of your classes
  • The satisfaction of completing something
  • Completing Mount 101 is a prerequisite for registration in the 2020-2021 academic year. This means that you'll be able to register for next year's courses once you've completed Mount 101 (and the timetable has been released).
  • You get a cool completion certificate.
  • You can put Mount 101 on your Co-Curricular Record. Use your CCR to give yourself the edge that future employers, graduate school, and scholarship committees are looking for.

How to get the most out of Mount 101

  • Don't waste your time just clicking through. You have to complete Mount 101 so why not get something out of it. You never know, you might just learn something new.
  • Do it in chunks. Take an hour and finish a section. Or, if you only have ten minutes, work your way through a lesson. If you break it into chunks and spread it out over the semester you'll be done in no time at all.
  • Do it when it makes sense. Why would you read research tips after you've handed in your research paper? It's the same with Mount 101. You'll get more out of it if you finish the sections when they're useful and relevant. So take note of the recommended times in Moodle.
