About the Program

Wije’winen Indigenous Knowledge Initiative (WIKI) is a program held at the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre in Halifax, in partnership with Mount Saint Vincent University. WIKI is a university access program designed to support Indigenous students in achieving their education and career goals.

Made possible by funding from the Province of Nova Scotia, the program provides a year of university courses and offers cultural and educational supports to students at the Friendship Centre to provide a solid foundation before students transition to their chosen university programs. During the program, students have the opportunity to explore and expand their academic interests and abilities.

The program covers the cost of tuition, books, and a student bus pass and ID for the year.

This is an 8-month program, running from September to April. Courses will be held Monday-Thursday between the hours of 9am – 4pm, with a very similar style to the way a schedule would be as they transition into University (some days the courses may end at 2pm, some days they may not start until 10am, etc.). The first semester will take place at the Friendship Centre and the second semester will be at MSVU.
