African Drumming

Rhythm, energy, teamwork, coordination! Improve these and more in African Drumming with a teacher who brings experience and knowledge of traditional West African Rhythms.  In a fun and relaxed environment, you will learn the history of the drum, proper sounds and drumming technique.  Drums will be provided if you do not have one.

DanceFit

Better cardio fitness, huge calorie burn, improved mental and emotional wellbeing! What else could you ask for in a workout? Zumba Toning

Zumba Toning combines body-sculpting techniques and high-energy dance moves to build strength and tone targeted areas. The class will involve intervals of cardio mixed with moves using light dumbbells. Perfect for those who want to party, but put extra emphasis on toning to define those muscles!

Meditation for Busy People - Workshop

Overwhelmed by tasks or demands from others? Maybe you just feel like your busy brain could use a little quiet soothing and space to decompress?  In this workshop, you will learn fundamental meditation techniques to help you relax, focus, and take control. Working with an experienced instructor you will learn how to apply these techniques in a range of scenarios from a busy work or school environment, to unwinding before you go to sleep at night. The instructor, Grant, specializes in teaching these tools, some that have been used for thousands of years, and applying them in a practical, hands on way so that anyone can benefit.

STOTT Pilates  

Focusing on strengthening core muscles of the torso and proper body alignment of the pelvis and spine, Pilates creates strength, tone and mobility of the abdomen, legs, arms, hips and back.  It makes you feel great and is perfect for everyone.

Traditional Yoga

Classes consist of postures, breathing exercises, relaxation and yogic wisdom building both flexibility
and strength in our body, breath and mind.  The ultimate goal of yoga, (according to the Yoga Sutra),
is to calm the fluctuations of the mind and turn inward.

Self Defense for Women

The “Women’s Awareness Survival Program” is a 4 week workshop focusing on proven,
evidence-based tactics. Learn the crucial self-defense skills of  assertiveness, situational

Aikido Club

NEW STUDENTS WELCOME ALL YEAR LONG! 

A Japanese martial art and a form of practical non-violence. It is performed by blending  with the
motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on.
Aikido requires very little physical strength. The techniques are completed with various throws
or joint locks.  This program is for all levels.

Shotokai Karate

This specialized program with two trainers will focus on developing the components that are consistent with reacting to unpredictable situations. Including use of the Vertimax Athletic Training platform with a pulley system designed for vertical jump and speed training (among many other exercises). Also included are assessments to measure participants’ starting and ending abilities.

Body Reboot 

- All levels

Burn fat and build muscle with this equipment-free cardio-and-strength circuit. This team training
program is designed to give you a MEGA boost on your own fitness. Physical assessments are
done at the beginning and end to showcase your progress! 

Classes involve short-but-intense cardio intervals, full-body strength moves, and an extra dose of
ab work helping you slim down your entire body and tighten your tummy. With a dedicated trainer 
focused on a small group of no more than 10 people and providing advice you are guaranteed to

Mohamed & Marielle Duranteau

Come dance with an accomplished Guinean dancer, Mohamed Duranteau and his wife Marielle. The dynamic duo has been teaching Guinean dance together and performing for audiences of all ages for
the last 12 years, starting in Victoria, BC, then in Montreal, QC and now in Halifax, NS. They are owners of Wontanara Drum & Dance.They are very eager to share their love for African music and dance with the Halifax community.  ~ Exploring West Africa through dance, rhythm and song ~

Margaret Galloway

With 17 years as a certified Stott Pilates teacher and a Franklin Method Educator, Margaret uses her understanding of the way the body is designed to move to help her students optimize their level of strength and flexibility. In a fun and supportive environment there’s opportunity to progress at a level
that works for each individual!

Trena Graham

Based in Halifax, Trena has been teaching in various classes, dance schools and clubs since 2001,
where she has applied her extensive ballroom and Latin training. She founded Trena’s Dance Studio
in 2006; where she is artistic director, choreographer and teacher.  
She has taught at numerous conventions and festivals across Canada andhas also performed locally
and nationally. and has competed internationally in Pittsburg and Miami with world Bachata champion, Darlin Garcia, where she brought home a bronze medal.  She has also been a local and national judge
for the Atlantic and Canadian Pole Fitness Championships.

Trena focuses primarily on Latin dances such as Salsa and Bachata. Her technique and style are
always impressive but it’s her energy, enthusiasm and engaging smile on the dance floor that are most memorable.

Grant Hatcher

Grant is a certified hypnotherapist and has been teaching meditation throughout Halifax for several
years. He has taught at Dalhousie, NSCC and various meditation studios in the HRM. Grant also
obtained a science degree from The Mount with honours in psychology. He blends traditional meditation techniques in a practical way that is accessible to all participants, regardless of experience or background.  

Cynthia McGrath

As a licensed Zumba Instructor, Cynthia McGrath has 15 years of experience teaching and motivating
in a group setting. She has taught a variety of group fitness classes but has chosen to focus her
energy on teaching Zumba, and Zumba Toning which combines body-sculpting techniques and
high-energy dance moves to build strength and tone targeted areas.

Jeanine Saulnier

Jeannine has been practicing, learning and teaching yoga for over 20 years. She has completed her
500 hour yoga teacher training at the Himalayan Institute and is now a certified Ayurveda consultant. Jeannine teaches a traditional form of yoga. She also has attended numerous trainings and has travelled
to India and experienced an indescribable world of yoga and Ayurveda. She now travels to Portugal to attend satsang with her master, Mooji Baba. She has experience the transformative power of Yoga, Ayurveda and her master’s pointing’s and is now being called to share the light of the heart.

Hayley VanKroonenburg

Hayley started practicing yoga at a young age to compliment her training in martial arts and cheerleading. In 2012, she completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu Centre for Yoga and Health. Hayley teaches many different styles of yoga including Vinyasa, Yin, Hatha, and Kripalu. Her favourite things to teach are inversions and arm balances because she loves to be upside down! Hayley likes to keep a
playful style to her teaching and practicing, and hopes to share her love of yoga with everyone who
comes to her class!
