Rick Plato
Men's Basketball Head Coach

Rick Plato brings a lifetime of experience to the MSVU Men’s Basketball team. He has been coaching for 31 years, 23 of them have been with the Mystics. During which time he received many prestigious awards, including 13 Atlantic College Athletic Association (ACAA) Coach of Year awards, the Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) Coach of the year in 2009, 13 ACAA Conference Championships and 13 trips to CCAA National Tournaments.
In addition, Plato and his teams have experienced many achievements nationally. In 2009 he led the team to capture the CCAA silver medal and in 1992 a CCAA bronze medal.
Before coming to MSVU he was the assistant coach at Saint Mary’s University from 1981-1984, the head coach at Sir John A. MacDonald High School in 1981 and Sackville High in 1982-1988. Plato holds a Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 3 Technical Coaching Certificate and has an overall coaching record of 518win – 204 losses; a 71.7 per cent winning record.
As a player, Plato captioned the Saint Mary’s University (SMU) Men’s Basketball team. He was a 2 time Atlantic University Sport (AUS) All-Star, a member of 2 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national championship teams, 2 AUS championship teams and SMU Athletic of the Year in 1981.Plato led the nation in foul shooting in 1980 with a 90.7 per cent record.

Dave Brien
Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

Dave Brian has been with the MSVU Men’s Basketball team since 2003. He has contributed to 6 Atlantic College Athletic Association (ACAA) gold medals and one Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) silver medal. Dave holds a Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 2.
As a player, Dave played for MSVU from 1993-1997 where he racked up 3 more ACAA titles. In his spare time Dave enjoys staying active by golfing, running and traveling.

 

Sean Boulay Asst Coach

 

Sean Boulay
Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

Sean Boulay comes to MSVU from Moncton, New Brunswick, where he grew up playing basketball. New to the crew, Sean will take on his first year as Assistant Coach of the team. Sean holds a Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 2 Coaching Certificate and Bachelor of Business Administration with a Major in Marketing from MSVU.
As a player, he played for Saint Mary’s University and MSVU, where he was a captain. Sean has won 4 ACAA Championships and was MSVU’s Athlete of the year and Men’s Basketball Most Valuable Player for the
2010-2011season.
