This reference guide is designed to be a resource for faculty and staff relating to the financial procedures
for research and special project accounts at Mount Saint Vincent University. The major goal is to support
and provide guidance in the administration of these accounts. The organization of this reference guide
describes the process an accountholder would go through to open an account, receive and expend funds
and close out the account. In addition, topics that create a lot of questions or common issues are also
discussed.
Research is dynamic and so are the procedures and policies, therefore this guide is intended to be a
working document. The handbook is subject to change and your comments and suggestions are welcome
which will allow us to make changes in line with the needs of the research and special projects community
at Mount Saint Vincent University. Please consult the Financial Services website for the most up-to-date
version.
NEW payrates in effect as of April 1, 2024:
• Minimum Wage – $15.20
• Undergrad – $17 – $20 per hour plus 12.00% (employer CPP, EI and 4% vacation expense)
• Graduate – $21 – $24 per hour plus 12.00% (employer CPP, EI and 4% vacation expense)
• Doctorate – $25 – $28 per hour plus 12.00% (employer CPP, EI and 4% vacation expense)
• Post Doctorate – Minimum $55,000 per year unless otherwise dictated by granting institution
