Release of Funds

Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), as a signatory to the Memorandum of Understanding – Roles and Responsibilities in the Management of Federal Grants and Awards (June 2002), is required to withhold access to funding for research awarded by NSERC, CIHR, and SSHRC until required certifications and/or approvals have been received. Most commonly, the required certifications and/or approvals concern satisfactory research ethics review when working with human subjects, environmental impact assessments, or animal care oversight and approval. The need to satisfy certification requirements (e.g. ethics, animal care, environmental, etc.) also applies to MSVU internal research grant awards as well as funding from other agencies and sources.

Please note that ethical review and approval of human or animal subject research is conducted on a project-by-project basis. Tri-Council policy states that certifications and approvals must be obtained within six months of the date of award, otherwise the agency may withdraw the award.

All funded researchers at the Mount are required to complete this form in order to have their account established and funds released. A copy of the award notification must accompany a request for release of funds. Additionally, the award holder must ensure that the Research Office receives a copy of the grant submission.
