Update: Posted on October 27 at 4:55p.m.

Late this afternoon, the police issued a media release confirming that they have someone in custody in relation to the sexual assault that was reported to have occurred on campus this morning. The suspect was arrested on campus but is not a student of the University.

This is a very disturbing situation and we are deeply concerned by it. We take sexual assault very seriously and are committed to doing all we can to ensure the safety of the Mount community. As always, the input of our community is welcome and encouraged in these efforts.

Senior administration will be meeting with the Student Union executive next week to determine next steps on campus engagement and dialogue on the topic of sexual assault. As well, the University has recently formalized its work in this area through the creation of a sexual violence prevention advisory committee which will also meet very soon.

As always, if any students, faculty or staff are concerned about walking on campus, you can contact Mount Security at 902-457-6412 and a security officer will accompany you.

We understand that this situation has been particularly distressing for some members of our community. We continue to encourage anyone needing support to contact one of the resources outlined below.
