How would you describe 2015 in one word?

Exhilarating? Challenging? Transformational? Rewarding? Demanding? Enriching?

This past year has been arguably all of those things, but in a word, 2015 has left me with a great sense of pride. Pride in our students who, in my opinion, are unlike any other post-secondary population. As Mount students, you are a unique group of socially-minded, inclusive and inspiring leaders and thinkers.

Pride in our faculty and staff – scholars, researchers, mentors and supporters – inspiring our students on a daily basis, opening realms and creating opportunities to ensure the success of future generations, all the while advancing work in your respective fields.

Here’s a sample of just a few of the Mount stories that made me proud this year:

Mount to introduce new inclusive education program: MountAbility launching in January
Sweet success: Mount students take first-place at national food development competition
New McCain Centre celebrates the contributions of women
2015 Mount academic and athletic awards showcase student accomplishments
Mount women’s volleyball team ACAA champions!
Caritas Day 2015: The Mount Gives Back

In keeping with the globally-minded philosophy and generous spirit that are characteristic of the Mount community, a group of faculty, staff and students recently came together to discuss how best we can support Syrian refugees arriving in Nova Scotia. We have learned that there will be several students arriving whose university studies have been interrupted. Click here to read about how you can help now, and stay tuned for more information in the New Year.

The Mount truly is a welcoming and special place. It is a place of enormous value to our region and beyond. We are fortunate to call this wonderful place our University home. This holiday season, I hope you take some much deserved time to be with those who matter most to you. Perhaps unplug to recharge. We’ve got an exciting year ahead.

Happy holidays,

Ramona
