Chris Hattie

Chris joined MSVU as the Associate Vice-President of People and Culture in August of 2024. As MSVU’s first AVP of People and Culture, Chris supports the university’s most valuable resource – its people – which includes promoting a culture that upholds the university’s strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). This role reflects an expanded view of human resources as encompassing not just the people, but also the culture in which our people work. Direct reports include the Director of Human Resources, the Manager of Faculty & Staff Relations, the Harassment and Discrimination Advisor, the EDIA Advisor, and the Special Advisor on Indigenous Relations.
This role marked Chris’ return to MSVU as he worked from 2016 to 2017 as Manager of Academic Relations, from 2010 to 2014 as Manager of Human Resources, and from 2009 to 2010 as Faculty Relations Officer. From 2017 to 2024, he was part of the Human Resources senior leadership team at Dalhousie University as Director of Employee Relations, Director of Employee Experience, and Acting Assistant Vice-President of Human Resources. Chris holds Bachelor’s degrees in Human Resources and Political Science from Saint Mary’s University and a Master in Industrial Relations from Queen’s University.
As part of his commitment to community engagement and social justice, Chris has volunteered for a number of organizations including the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace, and Security; Solutions for Kids in Pain; the Canadian Association of University Business Officers, and the Atlantic University & College Human Resources Association.
