The first stop on campus for an Aboriginal student should be the Aboriginal Student Centre (ASC) to gain support in an educational and culturally engaging space on the Mount campus.
As an Aboriginal student, the first resource you should check out for funding is your local Band council. Often, Status students can receive direct funding from their Band.
Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada
Another resource you should check out as a Status or Inuit student planning to enroll in post-secondary education is the Post-Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP) available through Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada. This website will explain who is eligible for funding, what costs are covered and how to apply. As well, it will lead you through additional federal assistance available to Aboriginal students.
The Aboriginal Student Awards PDF will assist you to gain access (through direct links) to bursaries and scholarships for Aboriginal students in Nova Scotia in particular and Canada in general. It is also highly recommended that you register with Indspire.ca (Aboriginal specific) and don’t forget to view the Awards Bulletin Board link in our menu.
