Dr. Maya Eichler part of National Defence Policy Review Roundtable
Dr. Maya Eichler is an  assistant professor in the departments of political and Canadian studies as  well as women’s studies at the Mount; she also holds the Canada Research Chair in Social Innovation and  Community Engagement.
 Her current research focuses on a new generation of Canadian veteran, and in  particular the impact of gender on the experience of military personnel as they  transition to civilian life.
 Recently, Dr. Eichler was one of 14 defence experts to participate in the  National Defence Policy Review Roundtable held in Halifax. In her submission to  the roundtable, she asked “is Canada ready to consider what a feminist  defence policy might look like?” 
 Dr. Eichler points out that a feminist defence policy  would be reflective of Canadian values and interests, while supporting the  health and well-being of military members and veterans. Furthermore,  such an approach would better position the military  to successfully “fulfill Canada’s international commitments on  women, peace and security” by ensuring “gender discrimination and sexual  misconduct are explicitly recognized and addressed on an ongoing basis.”
