Learners and leaders43rd annual Learners & Leaders event takes place October 26

On Thursday October 26th, 2017, the 43rd Annual Business & Tourism Conference at Mount Saint Vincent University will connect university and college students with the best in Atlantic business.


The only University-based event of its kind exclusively for undergraduate business students in Nova Scotia, the conference will feature experienced CEOs and human resource specialists, leading entrepreneurs and other industry experts. The day-long event will highlight important skills for young professionals, offering a glimpse of what it takes to succeed after graduation. See speakers list and other session highlights below.

The conference is open to Mount Business & Tourism students as well as Mount students from any other program, NSCC Business & Tourism students, and members of the public.

“At the Mount, we seek to make as many experiential opportunities available as possible, recognizing the importance of hands-on opportunity to student success,” said Dr. Peter Mombourquette, Chair of the Mount’s Department of Business and Tourism. “The Learners & Leaders conference has been bringing classroom lessons to life for more than 40 years. It’s a long-standing and well-attended tradition for our Business and Tourism students.”

Schedule Highlights

Morning keynotes

9:45 a.m. – Ross Simmonds, Motivational speaker and entrepreneur – Ross is the founder of Hustle & Grind (eCommerce store for entrepreneurs), Crate (content marketing software) and offers content marketing services to brands and start-ups around the world.

11 a.m. – Michael Duck, CEO, SureShot Solutions – Michael founded SureShot Solutions in 1985 and today is the industry leader in dispensing in North America’s restaurant sector.

Expert panels

1 p.m. – Marijuana Industry panel, emerging trends in Canada – Panel will feature Andrew Robinson of Robinson’s Cannabis Incorporated, Brett Evans of DoobTool, and Evan Price and Diandra Phipps of National Access Cannabis.

3:30 p.m. – Human Resource panel – Featuring the input of more than 20 HR directors from various companies who want to see students succeed after their studies.

Evening keynote (and dinner)

6:45 p.m. – Dave Carroll, the musician of United Breaks Guitars! fame – Dave will speak to students about customer service and how the choices made by companies regarding how to handle customer complaints can make a difference in today’s social media world.
