What you need to apply as an international student

International applicants are expected to have completed a preparatory program that leads to university entrance in their own country.

High School Students

In general, secondary school applicants have an average of 70% (5 best scoring academic subjects considered) during their final year of schooling. Applicants looking to transfer from another post-secondary institution must demonstrate an overall GPA of 2.0. Refer to chart below for program specific requirements.

English Language Requirements

Possession of minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission to the University. Applicants must submit proof of ability to follow a university program taught entirely in English. If English is not your first language, please submit official reports with acceptable scores. For information on English language requirements, please visit the English Test Score Requirements page.

Undergraduate Program-Specific Requirements

Canadian High School Curriculum

Students in Canadian curriculum high schools must have an overall average of 70% in their five best academic subjects with a minimum of 60% in each individual subject. Each program has specific requirements, please refer to the program requirements below to ensure admissibility.

Advanced Placement

The Mount participates in the Advanced Placement Program administered by the College Board in Princeton, New Jersey. Students may receive transfer credits for the following Advanced Placement Examinations provided they have achieved grades of four or five: Biology, Computer Studies, Economics, English, Mathematics, Political Studies, Psychology and Spanish. IGCSE / GCSE or Cambridge “O” & “A” Levels

British System applicants need grades of A, B or C in five subjects, including two A (Advanced) levels or four AS (Advanced Subsidiary) levels and three O (Ordinary) level courses, or the equivalent in Scottish Highers or Welsh Baccalaureate. Program specific requirements also need to be met.

International Baccalaureate

Mount Saint Vincent University welcomes applicants holding the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. Students enrolled in the IB program may receive transfer credit for a maximum of five credits for Higher Level IB courses with final grades of five, six or seven upon presentation of the completed diploma. Students receiving transfer credit for IB courses are advised to contact graduate and professional schools to determine the effect of those credits on their plans for future study and their career goals.   • No individual grade below 60%

For Psychology majors, students require university preparatory Mathematics. *

For Economics, Mathematics or Public Policy majors, students require university preparatory Mathematics. *

*Students who lack the required mathematics may register in the BA General Studies program and complete MATH 0027.

Bachelor of Science

  • University preparatory English (obtain a grade of 65% or higher in this course)
  • One university preparatory mathematics course
  • One university preparatory science course; Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • Two additional university preparatory courses
  • An overall average of 70% or higher and
  • No individual grade below 60%

Bachelor of Arts (Child and Youth Studies)

  • University preparatory English (obtain a grade of 65% or higher in this course)
  • One mathematics course
  • Three additional university preparatory courses
  • An overall average of 70% or higher and
  • No individual grade below 60%

Bachelor of Arts (Aging and Family Science)

Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) – with grades of A, B and C. Students who are currently in secondary school can apply with a Grade 12 academic transcript and predicted BGCSE results from their school. Predicted BGCSE grades of C or higher are required.

Certificado de Conclusao de Ensino Medio. Minimum 70% average with no mark below 60%.

China

Senior Middle Two and Three results as well as a graduation certificate. Students may also be asked to report scores from the National College Entrance Examination with grades of 70% or above.

Ghana

West African Examinations Council Certificate (WASSCE) – with grades C5 or better.

Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) – with grades of A, B, and C.

India

Higher Secondary School Certificates awarded at XI or XII – with grades of A, B or C.

English Language test scores may be required.

Jamaica

CSEC results of I, II or III and/or CAPE results of I – V. Credit awarded for CAPE Unit 2 results of I, II or III.

Mexico

Secondary School Certificate (Bachillerata) – with grades of A, B or C or 65% or higher or 0-10 with 7 being acceptable

English Language test scores required.

Nepal

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) – with grades of A, B, and C.

English Language test scores required.

Nigeria

West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) – with grades C5 or better

Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE) – with grades of 1, 2, 3

Saudi Arabia

Tawjihiyya (General Secondary Education Certificate – GSEC) – with grades of A, B or C. Minimum 70% average and no mark below 60%.

English Language test scores required.

South Korea

Immumgye Kodung Hakkyo Choeupchang (Academic Upper Secondary School Certificate). Minimum 70% average and no mark below 60%.

English Language test scores required.

Thailand

Higher Secondary School Certificate (Mathayom Suksa 6-M6) – with grades A, B or C.

English Language test scores required.

Vietnam

Senior High School Leaving Certificate (Tot Nghiep Pho Thong) – with grades of A, B or C.

English Language test scores required.

United States

United States graduates will normally have completed grade XII English (College Prep.) plus four additional grade XII academic courses with an overall average of 70% or higher. Certain degree programs may have additional requirements. SAT scores are not required but may be submitted as additional evidence of preparedness for university.
