42nd annual Learners & Leaders event takes place October 27

On Thursday October 27th, 2016, the 42nd Annual Business & Tourism Conference at Mount Saint Vincent University will connect university and college students with the best in Atlantic business. Experienced CEOs, human resource specialists, and leading entrepreneurs will highlight important skills for young professionals, offering a glimpse of what it takes to succeed after graduation.

The conference is open to Mount Business & Tourism students as well as Mount students from any other program, Holland College students, and NSCC and NBCC Business & Tourism students, as well as members of the public.

This year’s event will also welcome a pair of special afternoon keynote speakers who’ve experienced great national and international success in entrepreneurship. Brian Scuadmore started 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in 1989 with $700 and an old pick-up truck. In 2011, he realized he needed someone with strong operational skills to significantly grow the company. In hiring COO Erik Church, the pair embarked on a “two-in-the-box” concept of leadership and launched three sister-brands to 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in the painting (WOW 1 DAY PAINTING), moving (You Move Me), and house-detailing industries (Shack Shine). Scudamore is also a regular contributor to the Globe and Mail.

“At the Mount we recognize the importance of experiential opportunity to student success, and this conference is a great example of how we make that opportunity available,” said Dr. Peter Mombourquette, Chair of the Mount’s Department of Business and Tourism. “The Learners & Leaders conference provides valuable networking on both sides, and brings lessons and skills developed within the classroom to life through the perspectives of experienced professionals.”
