The Business and Tourism Department at Mount Saint Vincent University is making strides in efforts to give students every possible advantage. Dr. Peter Mombourquette, Chair and Associate Professor of the Mount’s Department of Business Administration and Tourism, has reached an exciting new agreement on behalf of all Business and Tourism students: As of April 1st, 2017, students in these programs at the Mount will be members of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and benefit from all the Chamber has to offer.

“All Mount Business and Tourism faculty and staff are already full members of the Chamber of Commerce, but we thought: why not extend that advantage to our students?” said Dr. Mombourquette. “This new arrangement will benefit students as it will allow them to develop as professionals and to connect with business leaders.”

As a full member of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, Mount students will have access to all Chamber events – valuable networking opportunities – and will extend their learning beyond the classroom through a special close-up look at how the business world works. The Mount is the first university in Atlantic Canada to enter into such a partnership with its local Chamber of Commerce, providing a unique benefit for its students.

“The Halifax Chamber is thrilled about this partnership with the Mount’s business and tourism students. We encourage all students to attend our networking events to make meaningful connections in the Halifax business community,” said Patrick Sullivan, President and CEO of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s fantastic that the department has taken the initiative to help us all become members,” said Allison Nash, a third-year Business Administration student at the Mount double majoring in strategic human resource management and marketing. “The opportunity to meet industry professionals who are passionate about local business and making Halifax a better place to live and work is very exciting as a student getting ready to enter the workforce.”

Noted Peter, “We hope this partnership will not only provide opportunities for our students, but also let the general public and leaders in the business community know just how talented our students are.”
