Members of the MSVU community got to work early to mark Earth Day 2024, spending a few hours last Thursday (April 18) tackling a number of special groundskeeping efforts on campus.

Dozens of MSVU staff, students and faculty collected garbage and leaves on the campus grounds (filling an impressive 58 garbage bags in just one hour!). Several people also prepped the beds in the community garden for the new growing season.

The event was organized by Facilities Management, in particular the Earth Day Committee and Cheryl Delorey, Capital Projects Assistant.

“We were thrilled to see such an enthusiastic turnout as we gathered at MSVU to clean up our campus and celebrate Earth Day 2024,” said Cheryl. “At MSVU, our vision is to develop a sustainable campus – one that meets the needs of our current students, faculty and staff while preserving the environment for future generations.”

MSVU’s 2024 Earth Day event also included a number of exhibitors and vendors, a plant swap, and lunch for all those who gave of their time and effort.

And one lucky participant took home a new bike (courtesy of Siemens)! Congrats to Courtney Green on your big win.

Special thanks to participating vendors and exhibitors including Efficiency NS, HRM Waste Management, Lakeland Plant World and Momma Bears Boutique. And a big thanks as well to all of the hardworking staff and faculty who made this initiative a success.
