During spring convocation ceremonies to be held May 14 and 15, 2026, Mount Saint Vincent University will recognize the achievements of several hundred students and bestow an honorary degree on Lisa LaFlamme, O.C., O.Ont.

About Lisa LaFlamme

Canadian journalist Lisa LaFlamme has been at the forefront of global reporting for more than 35 years, covering the biggest issues of our time, from war zones and natural disasters to changing political climates around the world.

Lisa LaflammeLaFlamme has traveled to some of the world’s most dangerous places and through her extensive war coverage of Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ukraine has documented the reality of how conflict warps society, punishes the most vulnerable and benefits the most corrupt.

She has interviewed major newsmakers, Prime Ministers, Presidents and Princes while always keeping the spotlight on the injustices that plague the world’s most oppressed.

LaFlamme, a passionate advocate for democracy, is an Officer of the Order of Canada, longtime ambassador for Journalists for Human Rights and for Plan International, board member of Samara Centre for Democracy, and advisory committee member for the Law Commission of Canada.

Convocation Ceremony Details

Lisa LaFlamme will be honoured during the convocation ceremony taking place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Convocation ceremonies will be held in the Seton Academic Centre Auditorium and will be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook.

About the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa 

MSVU recognizes distinguished individuals whose accomplishments are consistent with the mission of the university by granting the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (honoris causa) – an honour which can only be bestowed by the University Chancellor at the request of Senate. The university honours worthy recipients who have contributed to the betterment of society and humanity in any field, but in particular, improvement of the status of women, contribution to higher education, humanitarian and social service, involvement with and fostering of culture and the arts, or leadership in a field of endeavour. The convocation at which the degree is awarded is greatly enriched by the presence of honorary graduands who share the joy of the occasion.
