The first Master of Public Relations (MPR) class will graduate from Mount Saint Vincent University on Sunday, October 25. Started in 2006, the Mount’s MPR program is the only of its kind in the country and builds on its already well-established public relations program.
Tracey Taweel, Denise Cora and Jolinne Kearns will receive their degrees during the morning convocation ceremony in the Seton Auditorium, at 10:00 a.m.
“We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of the members of this year’s graduating MPR class,” says Dr. Amy Thurlow, Chair of the Mount’s public relations department. “Graduate education in public relations at the Mount plays an important role in the development of leaders like Tracey, Denise and Jolinne within the public relations profession.”
Ms. Cora holds a bachelor of public relations from the Mount and is presently the Manager of Internal Communications for Canada Post Corporation, Atlantic Region. She recommends the MPR program for those wanting to help shape the future of the profession or pursue an academic career.
Ms. Kearns is a graduate from the University of Ottawa where she earned a degree in communications. She chose the MPR program to give her a competitive advantage as she pursues a career in public relations.
Ms. Taweel, valedictorian for the morning convocation ceremony, is currently Managing Director, Communications Nova Scotia. She also holds a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of public relations from the Mount.
“I’m very proud to be affiliated with this program and the Mount,” says Ms. Taweel. “The calibre of the faculty and my colleagues in the program is second to none. It is humbling to be in their company.”
“All three students did project work that exemplifies the critical thinking our faculty encourages. We want the students to evolve as creative, ethical, and engaged professionals and world citizens,” says Dr. Thurlow. “Their contributions to the advancement of public relations research and practice are important to the University, but also to the broader community.”
