Program to be delivered mostly online starting in 2017

Mount Saint Vincent University and the Homburg Institute today announced a partnership to offer an innovative new certificate program for real estate professionals. The Executive Certificate in Real Estate Development, to launch in 2017, will be a one-year professional development program offered primarily online through the Mount’s Distance Learning department, in collaboration with the department of Business and Tourism.

“We’re excited to be offering this program linking the Mount’s excellent Business faculty with real estate industry professionals,” said Dr. Peter Mombourquette, chair of Business and Tourism. “Through online classes and lectures, professionals will be able to participate from anywhere in the world.” The program will be of particular interest to new commercial real estate professionals, aspiring developers, and those in related fields such as banking.

Homburg Institute’s Phillip Homburg is collaborating with Dr. Mombourquette to prepare for the program’s inaugural class. “We have identified the need for greater education, especially in the area of commercial real estate. We hope that this program will bring a greater understanding of both the challenges and opportunities facing the industry in Atlantic Canada,” said Homburg, President of the online real estate education firm.

The program will be delivered in five online modules, taking about 12 months in total to complete. Topics to be covered include the fundamentals of private real estate investment; finance, risk management and valuation; real estate development management; and law and strategic negotiation. Participants will also complete an independent project. Mount faculty from the Business and Tourism department, along with instructors from the Homburg Institute, will deliver the program to about 12 participants in the first year.
