In recognition of National Seniors Day, The Nova Scotia Centre for Aging at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), in partnership with Dalhousie University’s Kathryn Allen Weldon Chair in Alzheimer’s Research and the Halifax Central Library, are hosting a free public event on October 6.
Ageism is prevalent and harmful. It effects the health and wellbeing of older adults and communities, as well as having social and economic impacts.
The event, A Conversation about Aging Well in the Face of Ageism, will provide insight into what ageism looks like, why it exists, and how we can work to combat it in our lives, programs, and systems.
The thought-provoking discussion will be moderated by Jean Laroche, former CBC Reporter.
The speakers include:
- Dr. Janice Keefe, Professor and Chair of the Department of Aging and Family Science, Lena Isabel Jodrey Chair in Gerontology, and Director of the Nova Scotia Centre on Aging at MSVU.
- Dr. Melissa Andrew, Professor of Medicine and Kathryn Allen Weldon Chair in Alzheimer’s Research at Dalhousie University, and Geriatrician at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
- Linda Carvery, award winning vocalist, former President of the Nova Scotia Mass Choir, and community volunteer.
- Donalda MacIsaac, member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP).
The event will take place on Monday, October 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
All are welcome either in-person at the Halifax Central Library in the Paul O’Regan Hall or online.
