A message from Interim President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ramona Lumpkin

April 18 and 19, 2021, mark a devastating anniversary: one year since 22 Nova Scotians were killed in the worst mass shooting in our country’s history.

It was an unfathomable tragedy that left many grieving family, friends and community members in its wake. It also deeply affected the local law enforcement community. Constable Heidi Stevenson, a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, died in the line of duty on April 19. Constable Stevenson was posthumously honoured on the Riva Spatz Women’s Wall of Honour at MSVU. I encourage you to read her biography on the virtual wall.

The pain caused by this tragedy persists for so many and our thoughts are with them. In memory of all those who died, we have lowered our flags on campus.

Anniversaries like this one can be quite difficult. Please remember that supports are available.
