A message from Mount President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mary Bluechardt:

Lumpkin RoadI am pleased to let you know that a new sign has been put up on the Mount campus marking Lumpkin Road, a street recently named in tribute to recently retired President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ramona Lumpkin and in recognition of her contributions to our students, academic programs, governance, and many special projects.

Ramona has had a profound impact on the physical component of the Mount campus and it’s fitting that the campus will now include ‘Lumpkin Road’. This road winds its way from the Rosaria Student Centre, where Ramona and her husband Bill watched many sporting events, along the front of the McCain Centre to the main entrance of campus.
The idea was first proposed by the committee working on paying tribute to Ramona in light of her upcoming retirement and was revealed to her as part of an event earlier this summer. The naming was approved by the Mount’s Board of Governors and recently received the final ok from the city.
The Mount campus reflects the many contributions of past presidents, several of whom I’ve had the good fortune to meet and gain insights from since moving to Halifax, including Alexa McDonough, Sheila A. Brown and Elizabeth Parr-Johnston. There is something special and unique in this sisterhood of women leaders. They have established a solid foundation and I am embracing the opportunity to continue to advance the Mount’s vision and mission.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mary Bluechardt
President and Vice-Chancellor
