Dr. Svenja Huntemann has been named the 2025 recipient of the MSVU Early Career Research Award. Dr. Huntemann was recognized during the university’s spring convocation celebration held on May 16, 2025. The Early Career Research Award was established to recognize a faculty member at the beginning of their career who is pursuing exciting and innovative research in their field. Dr. Huntemann is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at MSVU.

Dr. Svenja Huntemann receiving the Early Career Research AwardFor Dr. Svenja Huntemann, this Early Career Research Award recognizes her remarkable contributions to Mathematics, in particular to the fields of combinatorics, abstract algebra, and the connections between these two areas. Dr. Huntemann is an internationally known researcher in combinatorial game theory (CGT), with collaborators from across the globe. She has published in prestigious journals like Theoretical Computer Science. She is also the co-organizer of an international seminar in CGT and is a member of the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) Collaborative Research Group, Games & Graph Searching in Atlantic Canada (GGSAC).

Beyond research scholarship, Dr. Huntemann’s impact extends to the next generation of researchers. She mentors undergraduate and graduate students with enthusiasm and dedication, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. This was reflected in two of her students submitting nomination letters for this award. Her willingness to share her expertise and passion for research and outreach are inspiring.
