Dr. G. Michael Bowen was recognized with the President’s Award for Research Excellence during the University’s spring convocation celebrations held May 14 and 15, 2026. The President’s Award for Research Excellence recognizes a faculty member’s contribution of high-level scholarly research to the research community and climate at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU).
About Dr. Bowen
Dr. Michael Bowen is a distinguished and innovative researcher in science and teacher education. His broad interests include the sociology of science, science teacher education, science in the media, and data literacy. His work appears in highly-reputable journals and books, serving as important references in the field. He has earned a global reputation for expertise and leadership, leading to international collaborations.
Dr. Bowen is committed to integrating best available research into future science teachers’ education and connecting it to classroom realities. In addition to sharing research with his students, he has presented to numerous organizations including the Canadian Society for the Study of Education and the Association for Science Teacher Education, and at prestigious events. He serves on science education groups and editorial boards, currently as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Research in Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education.
Dr. Bowen consistently creates opportunities for students to engage in research and co-author publications and presentations. In MSVU’s final project-based Master of Education (MEd) curriculum course, he has individually mentored a total of over 200 students.
