Members of the MSVU community got to work early to mark Earth Day 2026, tackling a number of groundskeeping efforts on campus on Monday (April 20).

More than 50 MSVU staff, students, and faculty collected garbage and leaves across the campus grounds, filling 80 bags.

The event was organized by Facilities Management, specifically Cheryl Delorey, Capital Projects Assistant, and the Earth Day Committee.

“It’s one of my favourite events to plan with and for my colleagues,” says Cheryl. “It gives us a chance to ring out the old season and refresh our campus as we look ahead to spring and summer. It brings the MSVU community together in so many ways and the vendors help deepen our awareness of why we celebrate Earth Day!”

MSVU’s 2026 Earth Day event also featured a number of vendors, including HRM Wasteless, Efficiency Nova Scotia, Lakeland Plant World, MSVU Community Garden, MSVU Safety and Security, and MSVU’s Wellness Committee. Forest Nova Scotia donated seedlings for people to take home and plant.

A big thanks to all the hardworking people who made this initiative a success!
