CAG2026 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS NOW OPEN: The Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG) is pleased to announce a Call for Abstracts for CAG2026. The meeting will be held October 15-17, 2026 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, at the Delta Hotels Prince Edward. SCHOLARSHIPS AND ASSISTANTSHIPS AVAILABLE: Full time students pursuing a thesis-based graduate degree in the Mount’s Department of Aging and Family Science or Applied Human Nutrition with a research focus in an area related to long-term care are encouraged to apply for scholarships and assistantship opportunities (up to $10,000 per year) made possible by the Shannex-MSVU Partnership. CONGRATS ON THESIS COMPLETION: We are pleased to share that Amber Duynisveld, graduate student in Aging and Family Science successfully defended her thesis in December – Understanding How Long-term Care Organizational Context Affects Nurses’ Quality of Work Life in Nova Scotia: A Model of Workforce Support. Her Masters-level research focusing on job satisfaction of nurses working in long-term care utilized data from 10 Nova Scotia care homes collected as part of a larger program of research on long term care underway. Amber has a been a Research Assistant at the NSCA since 2022 working on different project while completing her graduate studies. Congratulations Amber!

NATIONAL AGING CONFERENCE COMING TO ATLANTIC CANADA: The Canadian Association on Gerontology will be holding its 55th annual scientific and education meeting in Charlottetown, PEI from October 15 to 17, 2026. This conference features internationally renowed key note speakers as well as hundreds of presentations on topics spanning health and biological sciences, social sciences, social policy and practice, psychology and educational gerontology. This year’s theme is “Crossing Currents: Navigating Aging through Collaboration and Coordinated Action”. NSCA is pleased that our Director Dr. Janice Keefe is Conference Co-Chair (with Dr. Jessica Strong, UPEI) and that our Associate Director Pamela Fancey is also a member of the conference planning committee. Call for abstracts is now open. This is an event that Atlantic Canadians with an interest in matters related to aging won’t want to miss! For more informatin go to: CAG2026

SHANNEX SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS: Leading the way to a healthier future for aging adults, Shannex Incorporated has established this scholarship to enhance research capacity related to long-term care. Awarded annually to students who are focusing their research in an area related to long-term care who are enrolled in a thesis-based graduate degree program in Aging and Family Science or Applied Human Nutrition at Mount Saint Vincent University. Congratulations to the 2025 Shannex Graduate Scholarship in Aging and Nutrition recipients, Sara Mafla and Hende Eldlk!

DR. KEEFE RECIPIENT OF THE DR. JANET FAST RESEARCH EXCELLENCE AWARD: Dr. Janice Keefe recently received the Dr. Janet Fast Research Excellence Award. The Award recognizes researchers who make significant contributions to advance knowledge on caregiving. The Award was presented at the Canadian Caregiver Summit Gala presented by the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence.
