Dr. Elizabeth Church
Dr. Elizabeth Church began a five-year term as Vice-President (Academic) on August 1, 2010.
Dr. Church joined the University in 2003 and served as a Professor in the Faculty of Education and Coordinator of the School Psychology Program. She retains her appointment as Professor in the Faculty of Education. Before coming to Mount Saint Vincent University, she worked for 16 years as a faculty member at Memorial University of Newfoundland where she held appointments in Counselling, Education, Medicine, and Women’s Studies.
Dr. Church’s scholarship has focused on women in families, and health and social care in rural communities. She is a registered psychologist in Nova Scotia, and has maintained a small clinical practice. She is regularly invited to give professional workshops and presentations in psychology. She has published widely, including a well received book, Understanding Stepmothers (2004).
Dr. Church has been an active member of professional and community boards. She currently co-chairs a task force for the Canadian Psychological Association on supply and demand for psychologists. She is also a director of Oxfam Canada.
