Inclusion At The Mount

Why inclusion and diversity is important to the Mount

Mount Saint Vincent University is committed to promoting equity in the workplace and to helping reverse barriers and disadvantages experienced by Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, racially visible people, and women.

Diversity means understanding each individual's uniqueness which includes race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, age, religious beliefs, political beliefs, and other ideologies.  It also means celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual in a safe environment.  Embracing diversity in the workplace develops stronger relationships, fostered by trust, respect and open dialogue.

The Mount strives to be welcoming and understanding of the needs of its diverse population and encourages everyone to take steps to understand the diverse cultures, ethnicities and beliefs within the Mount and our neighbouring communities.

The Mount has an Employment Equity Committee which acts as an advisory body in the development, implementation and monitoring of the employment equity plan and as a forum in which employment equity issues can be discussed.  The Committee is made up of representatives from our employee groups who are passionate about creating a community of diversity at the Mount.
