A Garden that Welcomes the Community
We are a sustainably managed community garden on the Mount campus open to the students, faculty and staff of Mount Saint Vincent University as well as all interested individuals and organizations of the surrounding community. Our garden includes plots for individuals and organizations, as well as communal educational and demonstration plots. If you are interested in sustainability, researching gardens, growing your own food, meeting members of your community, or if you just want to get your hands in the dirt, we want you to get involved! The Mount Community Garden receives support from The Mount and from Evergreen, a national charity that makes cities more livable. To date we have received over $12,000 from Evergreen which funds our workshops and events, allows us to buy tools and plants and maintain the garden. Funds from our recent $10,000 grant from Evergreen are helping us expand to more than double our original size. We have been busy putting in new raised beds, building a new fence and adding almost 50 cubic yards of new soil to our garden. We have plans for a native plant garden, fruit trees and a new shady picnic area.
Even though we've been expanding there are still lots of things growing in the garden right now; kale, peas, tomatoes and lettuce, potatoes, squashes, cucumbers and strawberries. We are looking for volunteers to help with construction projects and composting, weeding and watering. Come up and check it out »
