An exchange program allows you to study in another country for one semester or academic year, and earn credits toward your degree. Students accepted for exchange programs pay Mount Saint Vincent University tuition and other fees and retain any Canadian financial aid they may have.

Going on exchange gives you the opportunity to use MSVU’s network in a pre-established pathway to live in another country. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to benefit from established processes, with pre-approved transfer credits from partner institutions and pre-departure and settlement support from experienced advisors.

In order to be eligible for an exchange program, you need:

  • A minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Completion of at least 2 semesters at MSVU

Application Deadlines: 

  • Jan 31 for Fall Semester of the same calendar year
  • Jul 31 for Winter Semester of the next calendar year

Application Procedure:

  1. Submit the complete Outgoing Exchange Application Package and the Forms before the deadlines;
  2. Once nominated by the IEC, you will be provided with a Confirmation Form and a list of required documents to be submitted by a specified deadline;
  3. Submit all the required documents to the host institution by its deadline (we will inform you of applicable deadlines after you have been nominated); and
  4. Complete the mandatory Pre-departure Workshop on Moodle (this is where we help you prepare to leave!)

Scholarships and Financial Support

Every year the Government of Canada announces scholarship programs for key countries. For details: Government Scholarships for Canadians.

The International Education Centre (IEC) is able to offer a limited number of travel bursaries to off-set the cost of traveling to obtain immigration documents from embassies outside of the Halifax Regional Municipality. Please contact us at global@msvu.ca for details.

Deadline: Funding applications are accepted upon nomination, but must be received at least 8 weeks prior to departure.

The Dean’s Office provides $300 in funding for MSVU students to study abroad.

This scholarship is for students who wish to pursue study experience in France in the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year.

Eligibility:

  • Students of Canadian nationality.
  • Students enrolled in one of the universities or colleges in the Atlantic Provinces (NB, NS, PEI, and NF).
  • Students who wish to study in France for one full semester in the 2024/2025 Academic year.
  • Students aged 18 and over at the time of departure to France.

It covers:

  • Canada-France international transportation, round trip;
  • Registration with the French public social security system and registration with complementary health insurance (mutuelle);
  • The status of a scholarship holder from the French State;
  • Priority access to university residences (CROUS) (depending on available places – not guaranteed);
  • Study visa fees in France (automatic exemption as part of a university exchange);

Preference will be given to applications from students planning long mobility (two semesters or more).

The Austrian Government administers scholarship programs that Canadian students are eligible for, such as “Ernst Mach Grant – worldwide” and “Ernst Mach Grant for studying at an Austrian university of applied sciences“. Please find more here.

Export Development Canada (EDC) offers scholarships for International Business students to participate in international experiences. Note the competition period runs from November to the end of February. Please find the details at: Scholarships | EDC.

Open to students participating in an international experience in a country where Scotiabank operates, or that is part of the Global ATM Alliance. This award applies to our current partnerships in the Grand Cayman Islands, China, France, Korea, Mexico, and Spain.
