Change the world, one student at a time!
Formed in 2006, WUSC at MSVU is part of over 80 WUSC local committees in Canada. Our MSVU committee is made up of students, staff, and faculty who want change and are passionate about international development.
Student Refugee Program (SRP)
In 2007, the Mount WUSC local committee held a student referendum in support of the SRP. A remarkable 93% of Mount students voted in favour of the program. This year, the Mount welcomes the seventh student sponsored through WUSC. The WUSC local committee holds fundraising and awareness events each semester to bring a refugee student to MSVU each year. Shine A Light: Solar-Powered Lamps in Refugee Camps
The Shine a Light campaign focuses on girl-child education in refugee camps by raising funds to provide solar-powered lamps to enable girls to study at night. Between domestic chores and taking care of younger siblings, many girls in refugee camps only find time to study after dark because there is no electricity.
The Mount WUSC LC held a coffeehouse on campus to spread awareness and raise money for the Shine a Light campaign. We had a light painting setup, baked goods, and coffee, as well as some performances. We raised a total of $315. Great job, everyone!
