Tips for applying to Student Works

How to apply to Student Works in 6 steps

1. Identify your skills. Identify 3 to 4 of your skills, strengths, or applicable lived experiences that can apply to the workplace. You can draw on volunteer experiences, past jobs, academic assignments, travel, interests, or any other applicable experience.

2. Log into the platform. Log into Career Connects with your MSVU email address and regular password. Go to the Careers tab and look for Job Postings. Email helpdesk@msvu.ca if you have trouble getting in.

3. Review the job postings. Pick out a handful of job postings that generally match your skills, strengths, or lived experiences.

4. Review the cover letter and resume example and create your own. You will use one cover letter and one resume to apply. Your goal is to generally align with the job postings you’ve chosen to apply to. The key is to focus on showing what you’re good at, rather than trying to address every keyword or requirement in the job postings. Highlight your 3 to 4 skills in your cover letter. Use accomplishment statements in your resume.

5. Enter your financial information into the budget sheet. See the job posting for the file. The information you submit will be kept confidential.

6. Prepare your email application. Send your budget sheet cover letter, and resume to financial.aid@msvu.ca before Friday, September 18, 2026 at 12 p.m. noon.
