COVID-19 Research Ethics Inquiries

Statement

The information included in the FAQs listed below is for researcher information and guidance purposes only. Each research study poses unique properties and/or situations that may require additional or different guidance than what is presented. The information throughout this forum is meant to provide general situational advice and does not constitute research ethics compliance in absolute form. If you have any questions or need further guidance, please contact ethics@msvu.ca.

The development of these questions was aided by MSVU’s Research Ethics Board (REB) and information from publicly available documents at Canadian Universities, such as Carleton University, Queen’s University, and Dalhousie University.

1. Do I still need clearance from the Lab Access Committee before conducting or resuming face-to-face (F2F) research?

Face-to-face (F2F) research on or off-campus must seek UREB and Lab Access Committee clearance before initiating recruitment or data collection with participants. This includes both the resumption of  F2F research and/or the initiation of new F2F research.

For more information, please review COVID-19 Research Information, REB.SOP.502 and complete REB.FORM.018.

2. Are research staff and/or participants required to wear masks when collecting data on or off campus?

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, so do the requirements and guidance of research across MSVU. MSVU’s response to COVID-19, in the context of resumption or newly initiated human research, can be found here. Please review this information regularly.

Please contact the Research Ethics Office at ethics@msvu.ca if you have any questions or concerns regarding COVID-19 and mask use.
