International Day of the Girl Child

The United Nations declared October 11 the International Day of the Girl Child. The day marks the challenges girls face while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

“The International Day of the Girl Child is observed internationally on October 11th. Here at Mount Saint Vincent University, we will celebrate with an exciting, free event open to the public,” says Dr. Susie Brigham, Chair of the Alexa McDonough Institute and Professor in the Faculty of Education at the Mount. “The goal of this event is to help bring awareness to challenges that girl children face, showcase some, inspire some and provide an opportunity for girls in Nova Scotia to get together.
