Location: Open to faculty of Mount Saint Vincent University. Interested faculty at other institutions will also be considered.
Compensation: 0.5 units of course relief annually.

Since 1975, Atlantis: Critical Studies in Gender, Culture and Social Justice has published scholarly work in intersectional gender studies. The journal is a gold-standard, online, open access scholarly periodical published via the Open Journal System (OJS) platform and hosted by Mount Saint Vincent University as well as Erudit. Atlantis publishes two issues per calendar year.
Atlantis is currently seeking applicants for the role of Editor. The Editor will work with the Editorial Board and Atlantis support team to oversee the content and production of journal issues.
The successful applicant for Editor will be recognized as a leader in the field of Women and Gender Studies. They will hold a PhD in a relevant field, have an active scholarly publishing record, and demonstrate experience in academic editorial and publishing processes.
Atlantis acknowledges the historical and ongoing inequity at all stages of academic publishing. We are committed to addressing this issue through our editorial practices and the scholarship published in the journal.
We invite applications from all scholars in Women and Gender Studies as well as related fields. In particular, we welcome applications from scholars working in the areas of Critical Race Studies, Critical Indigenous Studies, Critical Disability Studies or, more generally, from scholars whose research focuses on dismantling hierarchies and exclusion based on racism, sexism, colonialism, and/or ableism.
The Editor is responsible for the overall quality of the intellectual content of the journal and is expected to:
1) Chair at least three meetings of the Editorial Board per calendar year. Work with the Administrative Assistant to draft agendas for meetings.
2) Collaborate with the Editorial Board to periodically review the journal’s mandate, policies, and terms of reference, and ensure these are transparent and clearly communicated where appropriate.
3) Collaborate with the Editorial Board to develop themes and calls for papers for journal issues; solicit editors for issues; assist in finding reviewers for papers as required; address substantive differences of opinion that may arise during the review process.
4) Collaborate with the Editorial Board to recruit new Board members.
5) Collaborate with the Managing Editor on the production of the journal, including publishing processes and schedules.
6) Collaborate with Issue/Section Editors to ensure all accepted articles are consistent with Atlantis’ mandate and publishing standards. Establish and maintain processes for resolving conflicts of interest and substantive differences of opinion.
7) Collaborate with MSVU administration via the University Liaison on maintaining funding for the journal, including grant writing and other fundraising initiatives.
8) Stay current with the work of the Managing Editor, University Liaison, and MSVU Librarians as they manage the OJS platform and develop the Atlantis partnership with Erudit.
9) Assist with promotion of the journal, including maintaining links with organizations such as Women’s and Gender Studies et Recherches Feministes (WGSRF).
10) Actively work to maintain diversity among journal Board members, Issue/Section Editors, peer reviewers, and authors.
