Welcome!

In July 2002, Dr. Janice Keefe was selected as Mount Saint Vincent University’s first Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Aging and Caregiving Policy and was awarded funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation to develop the Maritime Data Centre for Aging Research and Policy Analysis (MDC). Funding was also provided by the Province of Nova Scotia and Mount Saint Vincent University. Dr. Keefe held the Canada Research Chair in Aging and Caregiving Policy for 10 years (2002-2012) and continues to serve as the Lena Isabel Jodrey Chair in Gerontology for Mount Saint Vincent University.

Our Purpose:

  • To conduct research on the effects of the aging population with particular emphasis on caregiving issues.
  • To train graduate and undergraduate students in research methodologies, analysis of public policies and quantitative analyses of primary and secondary data.
  • To translate findings from data analysis to key local, provincial, and national decision makers in the continuing care field.

Technology:

The Maritime Data Centre’s state-of-the-art technology provides opportunities for developing sophisticated skills in data collection, analysis and utilization, as well as collaboration with scholars throughout the world.

The lab is fully equipped and flexible to serve as both a classroom and office space. The latest software (MS Office, STATA, SAS, Lisrel, SPSS, NUDIST, and MAXQDA) and technology (computers, video camcorders, projectors, laser screen) is available to assist the reseachers on the various projects.
