Can my spouse and children come to visit me?

It depends on what type of permit they have and when their application was approved. Your family (spouse and children) may be able to come to Canada if they fall under one of the travel exemptions listed by IRCC. Learn about Canada’s travel exemptions.

I am in my home country now. Can I still return to Canada?

Yes, if you meet the following conditions:

  1. Your Study Permit was issued before March 18, 2020;
  2. your travel to Canada is deemed essential;
  3. and you hold a valid Temporary Resident Visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Please email international@msvu.ca to check if your travel to Canada may be considered essential. Depending on your circumstance, a letter to support your essential travel claim may be provided.

Can I travel back to my home country now that classes are done and classes will temporarily be delivered online beginning May 2020?

Travel outside of Canada is not recommended at this time. International flights leaving Canada are very limited. While domestic flights continue to run, remember that your other connection flights outside Canada may be spontaneously cancelled. If you decide to go home, consider buying travel insurance to cover missed or cancelled flights.

Will my MSVU health insurance cover me in my home country?

Your MSVU Emergency Health Insurance Plan, GuardMe International, will not be valid in your home country. In addition, GuardMe International will cover medical expenses related to COVID-19 only if you receive treatment in Canada.

Can I travel to Canada if my initial Study Permit was approved after March 18?

No, you cannot travel to Canada if your Study Permit was approved after March 18, 2020.

Travel exemptions implemented by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) only allow people whose Study Permit was approved before March 18, 2020 and their travel  to Canada is deemed essential.
